GHD is looking for a Project BIM Lead to join our Design Center, located in Waterloo, ON. You will work with the Regional BIM Manager and is responsible for the BIM Execution Plan implementation and project level BIM support. The PBL will work directly with the project team on multi-discipline facilities engineering projects in various industries.

Our Ontario Design Centre balances a wide variety of projects. Its primary focus is Ontario, but at times providing national or global support in industries including water/wastewater treatment, energy and cogeneration, solid waste, food and agricultural, environmental and water resources. Our projects range from full industrial facility design and construct to individual equipment replacement.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Develop project level tools and technology
  • Develop and implements project BIM Execution Plan.
  • Communicate and implement BEP and BIM project requirements throughout project lifecycle
  • Provides support and training to project team on project BIM standards and procedures.
  • Works under Regional BIM Manager’s supervision, adheres to GHD BIM standards and procedures, and implements compliance on project level.
  • Develops project specific templates and content libraries when required.
  • Provides input into BIM scope, schedule, budget when required.
  • Work with Design Manager and Discipline Leads on major design decisions and receive directives for submittals.
  • Responsible for owning the consistency and quality across project work.
  • Implements QA/QC for BIM and projects, reports on quality, completeness and maturity.
  • Communication with designers and sub-consultants on regular basis to ensure effective and timely flow of project information, including holding/attending BIM coordination meetings and working with external project partners.
  • Responsible for shared, published and archived project information.
  • Escalate risks, challenges associated with delivery production, BIM development to Regional BIM manager in a timely manner including monitoring progress and reporting on multi-discipline BIM development and deliverables percentage complete.
  • Supports 4D/5D deliverables development and manages the handover and transition of BIM (PIM to AIM) to client when required.
  • Responsible for participating, when required, in advancement of GHD BIM Standards including promoting changes, mentor on updates to tools and methods, assisting with training development and lessons learned exercises.

Required Experience:

  • 5 years of managing information for different phases of multidiscipline projects.
  • Experience in at least one of the following project roles: BIM coordination, document management or engineering design.
  • Experience in developing and implementing project BIM standard and execution plan.
  • Experience in 3D modeling, Model Setup, Management and troubleshooting, multidiscipline coordination and project data exchange.

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • Knowledge of BIM for EPCM/EPC contracts including execution, processes, design and construction management.
  • Competency/expertise in the following:
  • BIM Collaboration tools e.g. (ProjectWise, BIM 360),
  • Design authoring/review/automation tools e.g. (AutoDesk Revit, Navisworks, Dynamo, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads)
  • Excellent team leadership to lead a BIM team for design and production.
  • Understanding of 4D/5D BIM and ability to support DB project requirements.
  • Strong understanding of standard data exchange practices and project document management through worksharing platforms.
  • Thorough understanding of design information flow, project systems implementation / integration requirements
  • Strong communication skills for team-based working environment and for teaching project teams about standard methodologies in BIM
  • Ability to interact with external entities to interpret and understand BIM/CAD requirements and BIM scope
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to work in multiple parallel projects and within a team environment
  • Superior attention to detail, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Availability to travel when required
