GHD is looking for a Senior Track Design Project Manager to join our team in the GTA, located in our Mississauga, ON Office. As the Senior Track Designer and Project Manager, you will lead internal Designers and Project Managers with a primary focus on organizing the Technical team to complete the task; manage all input and design coordination between disciplines, control the design path, solve problems, and hold responsibility for the track design in achieving the final result.

This is a leadership role.


  • Partner closely with the Rail and Transit Business Lead, Project Directors and Design Manager on all major project functions, with primary focus on managing the track design project team
  • Provide strategic input into complex design options and solutions that fit the Client’s requirements
  • Coordinate all aspects of the design team including the design work
  • Develop or verify the technical scope of a project
  • Manage project budget and schedule
  • Lead all aspects of the engineering schedule in collaboration with the Project Manager and individual design leads
  • Lead track design coordination meetings and address critical issues that impact external partners
  • Work closely with the engineering group to facilitate decision making related to design, the choice of process and equipment and day-to-day challenges
  • Ensure all requirements including specifications and standards are integrated into the project
  • Ensure quality controls processes are being followed
  • Lead, Mentor and develop junior staff
  • Partner with the Project Manager the budget and schedule on a regular basis while identifying gaps and providing solutions to achieving the scope
  • Serve as liaison between the site and engineering disciplines during construction and be responsible for the review of shop drawings
  • Represent GHD at Client meetings by leading on all track aspects

Your Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s (B.Sc.) degree or equivalent
  • Professional Engineer of Ontario
  • Minimum of 15 years' of broad and extensive technical design, administrative and project experience
  • Proven expertise in managing the design delivery for larger, projects specifically, complex rail, transit and facilities
  • Demonstrable experience in the development and design of rail and transit track including complex alignments, junctions, turnouts and crossovers
  • Experience of working in a Design Build environment, ability to demonstrate examples of applied design construction savings or efficiencies
  • Detailed understanding of local Agency (or equivalent) Codes and Standards
  • Thorough understand of Building Information Management and it’s application in producing 3D design for Rail and Transit projects
  • Knowledge of scheduling software and engineering and capital cost estimating techniques is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to deal with uncertainty, changing and multiple priorities
  • Team building and mentoring skills
